Walt Disney, Donald Duck, & Hitler?

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

We recently went to Walt Disney World for part of our family vacation, and it reminded me of my favorite World War II film. Odd, hugh? My oldest son’s favorite Disney character has always been Donald Duck, and one of the funniest Donald Duck shorts was produced in 1942 for the war effort. During the early 1940s, Walt Disney Productions produced government training and propaganda films. One of those films was Der Fuehrer’s Face.

The cartoon features Donald Duck as a reluctant and bumbling Nazi soldier. Don’t worry; Donald is on the right side of history! The film was popular with audiences and the critics. It even won a 1943 Academy Award. Watch it now, and see what you think!
