My Spotify personal playlist is diverse to say the least. I have everything from hip hop to country to Christian to show tunes to oldies to Disney songs, but my favorite genre will always be big band. The music of the 1940s was grand, fun, and beautiful. No wonder, Spotify named me the “Time Traveler” listener! My number one song last year, thanks to Spotify’s shuffle feature, happened to be “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by The Andrew Sisters. While that song did not make The Final Song, another famous Andrew Sisters’ selection did.
So, here is an old song for a new year for you. “I’ll Be with You in Apple Blossom Time” was written and composed by Neville Fleeson and Albert Von Tilzer in 1920. The Andrew Sisters recorded it in 1941, and it was featured in the movie Buck Privates. The popular song was also covered by such musical greats as Harry James, Jo Stafford, Nat King Cole, Wayne Newton, Barry Manilow, and many more. My favorite version is that of The Andrew Sisters. Take a listen!
“I’ll be with you in apple blossom time. I’ll be with you to change your name to mine,” Ava sang, and Willie nodded at her in approval, his pencil-thin figure leaning over his music stand as he pointed at each instrument with his baton at just right moment.
